As a British writer and historian, I’ve made history and translating it into commercially viable projects my lifeblood. Prior to becoming a full-time writer in 2011, I was a commercial/financial advisor for the high-level protection of historic landscapes in Britain and overseas, and the restoration of historic buildings and estates to alternative use by governments, English Heritage and the National Trust among others. I’ve written biographies of historical figures from Elizabeth I to Joseph P. Kennedy and Hitler’s enablers, and film scripts about diverse lives from William Shakespeare and Eleanor of Aquitaine to Tsar Nicholas II. For me, history is about all the people who make it, not only those who we learn about at school. It is about the events they make happen, get caught up in, or seek to overcome and how it changes them and our world.
